Channel 4Es PR problem

Article Abstract:

Channel 4Es future strategy is to move closer to its public service origins and away from commercialization. It has asked for [pounds sterling]100 million to help commission more of the brave, innovative programming that it is known for. The unprecedented success of Big Brother has helped Channel 4 garner about [pounds sterling]60 million in profits, but it has also distorted public perception of Channel 4 as a public broadcaster, which the requested additional funding may restore.

Endemol UK is the biggest programming supplier to the UK's television broadcast market, with 6,659 hours in 2002. The firm, which has 250 employees and sales of 65 mil pounds sterling in 2002, is headed by chairman Peter Bazalgette. An interview with him covers such topics as a new deal to provide comedy content to Hutchison 3G phones, new programs, the future of independent production companies and relations with government broadcast regulators.

Big, but not clever

Article Abstract:

The importance of maintaining the quality of the television programs and the duty of care to real people is analyzed. It is suggested that television shows like Big Brother by channel 4 should not be programmed just for the sake of winning the television audience ratings.
