Chrysalis buys Choice

Article Abstract:

Chrysalis Group has acquired the Birmingham, UK-based black music radio station Choice FM from Soul Media for 6 million pounds sterling. The company is planning to conduct a listener and advertiser study in the approaching months with the aim to reposition Choice under Chrysalis's Galaxy dance brand of music. Choice is required to play a minimum of 20% soul, 20% soul-influenced top 40 music and other types of music such as reggae, house/garage, gospel, rap and Caribbean, leading industry sources to suggest that turning Choice into a Galaxy brand will be tough. The transaction is required to undergo a public interest evaluation by the Radio Authority because Chrysalis already has ownership tp 100.7 Heart FM in the same market.

Xfm protesters to meet radio chiefs

Article Abstract:

A group of angry listeners is attacking 104.9 Xfm, which has been acquired by Capital Radio in July 1998, due to alterations in the station's programming. Complaints are about the station's failure to announce on air the changes to be carried out, likewise citing that the station's music programs and identity have been ruined following Capital's takeover. Eighty-nine letters and 78 e-mails have been brought to the Radio Authority regarding the changes, which included the dismissal of many DJs and specialist programs when Capital initiated a major restructuring in August 1998.
