Contradictions in the democratization of international communication

Article Abstract:

The communication technology portions of the World Trade Organization's General Agreement on Trade Services (GAT) and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) have both limited and enhanced the free flow of information. Under the New World Information and Communication Order (NWICO) international communication services have increased communications services but the democratic participation is uneven and largely dictated by corporate and political interests.
