Dawing realisation: Dawn Airey's rapid rise to C4 controller of arts and entertainment raised a few eyebrows but she has swiftly proved herself

Article Abstract:

Dawn Airey is controller of arts and entertainment at C4. Airey sees herself as a commercial animal seeking new strategies in the ratings war. She joined Central TV as a management trainee in 1985 and was appointed controller of programme planning in 1988. She joined the board in 1989 and was appointed ITV controller of network children's and daytime programmes in 1993. She relishes the increased competition that Channel 5 will bring although believes Channel 4 will not be as much affected as ITV.

Article Abstract:

Diverse Productions was established in the 1980s and is well known for its documentaries, but will be producing a number of drama productions for the BBC and Channel 4. The appointment of Laurence Bowen in Feb 1994 saw the company begin to live up to its name. Bowen was formerly with the First Film Foundations and has access to many talented scriptwriters. In the future Diverse Productions may have to look for a partner for extra finance.
