Difficult questions about environmental communication

Article Abstract:

Prof Stephen Depoe's criticisms were accepted as contributory to the establishment of relationship between human symbolism and environmental issues. However, Depoe was found to overlook several concerns regarding environmental communication. First, he failed to address environmental lessons and issues from which the readers of the books may learn from. He also failed to establish coherent focus on the essays, making the books' utility for classroom settings less useful. Moreover, he failed to create a draft on communication issues relevant for future studies.

Response to Professor Depoe

Article Abstract:

The contributions of Prof Stephen Depoe in environmental studies was apparently justified by his criticisms in three environment-related books. Depoe's primary critique was based on the Foucauldian notion that the environment is not an absolute concept which exist prior to discourse. Accordingly, Depoe suggested that no existing discipline can explain the diversity of the issues and theories related with environmental discussions. Moreover, Depoe's criticized that environmental justice is an imperative site of environmental discourse.

The future of environmental rhetoric

Article Abstract:

Stephen Depoe had introduced environmental communication as a new discipline based on several written rhetorics related with this idea. The commentary of Lindblom (1990) and Giddens (1994) which posits that environmental discourse dwells within a culture of arguments is now held responsible with the birth of non-governmental organizations and burgeoning environmental justice movements. Moreover, diversity in argumentations will lead to the best possible solutions for environmental issues also rooted from Depoe's philosophy.
