Discreet entry into the fray

Article Abstract:

Discreet Logic of Montreal, Canada, is in direct competition with Avid Technology in the broadcast editing systems market. Having been restructured by its founder, Richard Szalwinski, Discreet's expansion strategy began to pay off with the acquisition of Denim and D-Vision. Both companies specialised in low-end effects and editing systems and Discreet's name has given them credibility. Products include Smoke, a middle range non-linear editing system and Fire, a high-end effects editor.
