Drowning by numbers

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom is seeing growth in the number of cable television movie channels which are being offered despite the fact that the numbers for watching movies on terrestrial television has dropped, and the number of people going to the theater to see movies was at its highest since 1972 at 143 million in the year 2000. The introduction of pay-per-view movie services and digital television are giving consumers even more choices, making the crowded cable movie channel market even more competitive. Industry executives claim that consumers like the choice they are being offered, and appreciate the movies that movie channels run which cannot be seen on free television.
