Symposium: twelve visions

Article Abstract:

A dozen representatives from the publishing industry gave their views on the status of this information medium. Most agree that books and publishing will continue to be a potent force in the information age. New developments in technology would eventually replace books but not their contents. Some bewail the fact that most published works suffer in quality to give way to commercial profitability.

The "book" on books - mammon and the muses

Article Abstract:

Six books on the US book publishing industry are reviewed. The socio-economic aspects of the industry are comprehensively discussed to give the reader an idea of the factors constantly influencing the industry. The industry is at present trying to resolve a conflict between commercial profitability and literary creativity. Different factors affecting the relationship between both are presented.
