GMG wins German footing in RTL deal

Article Abstract:

Granada Media Group enters into a partnership with RTL, Germany's leading commercial station, as part of its expansion program in this European country. A production company is being planned by Granada, who is also on the lookout for a manager for the enterprise. The Granada-RTL tie-up is slated to work on three series, that would be based on current formulas used in the drama Reckless and the sitcom Holding the Baby. The partnership's third project will showcase the Munich Beer Festival, which will be depicted along the format of the hit "Ibiza Uncovered."

The jury's out

Article Abstract:

It is suggested that the procedure for selecting a licensee for the Channel 5franchise should parallel that used in 1991 for the Channel 3 franchise. The main differencesbetween the two competitions, is that Channel 3 was an established service, and Channel 5 isnew; and that in 1991 all bidders were applying to do the same thing, whereas bidders forChannel 5 are seeking different niches.
