Media and social change in Africa

Article Abstract:

The inequal development of the electronic media in Africa hinders the concept of 'the global village.' Africa is generally painted in the western media as a land of scarcity, war and famine which fails to serve any purpose for African societies. The emerging trend of a free press in Africa changes the picture by strengthening the democratic institutions and playing a crucial role in the effective management of famines. The process of reformation is reflected in the South African Broadcasting Corporation's coverage of the 1994 election.

Just as in the case of the World Trade Center disaster the CNN broadcasted the news immediately and provided all possible information that it could get to its viewers, also it was trying to get further details about the incident and broadcast the same.
