Undercover investigations are the only sector of current affairs journalism that has been able to sustain a position in primetime. Though it fuels public interest in consumer affairs, the undercover approach has led to damaging interference in the judicial process, a confusion of roles between the police and reporters, an overemphasis on consumers issues and a blurring of news and entertainment genres.
