Govt to review digi spectrum

Article Abstract:

A joint report by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department for Culture, Media & Sport has prompted the UK government to open a discussion on the frequency allocation of digital terrestrial television. The government plans to offer a total of six digital multiplexes, operated by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, S4C Digital Network, and ITV Digital.

Carlton lobbies govt for digital cash

Article Abstract:

A significant decrease in ITV's yearly payments to the UK treasury is being requested by Carlton Communications. The savings in license payments, which are currently UKPd350 million yearly, will be earmarked for digital television. Digital TV is expected to replace analogue in the UK by the year 2006, according to media secretary Chris Smith.

The United Kingdom based broadcasting firm ITV has paid huge money for acquiring telecast rights for football World Cupr-2006. But the advertisers are not too keen on this event which may affect the television revenues, an analysis of this situation is presented.
