How to go beyond reality TV

Article Abstract:

The success of Touching the Void and Fahrenheit 9/11 has spawned an amazing number of factual documentaries on television. Documentary film cameraman must have intuition in addition to technical knowledge. Documentary filmmakers must demonstrate patience and gain the trust of their subjects. It is a telling irony that Britain, once a leader in documentaries, is now a place where it is difficult to get funding for such films.

Tuning into radio regulation

Article Abstract:

A broad based review of digital radio is looking at research, analysis and evidence seeking of this hundred-year-old medium. Ofcom intention is to move from input regulation to output regulation. Commercial radio companies are anxious to find out the levels of input regulation as opposed to their expectation of output regulation while politicians and trade unions will resist job losses that may happen due to changes.

Time to set a digital agenda

Article Abstract:

The radio broadcasting industry is lagging far behind the television sector, since it has yet to discuss the possibility of switching off its analogue frequencies. The demand for digital radio is increasing, yet no one has incentive to invest on moving to a digital platform because a clear timetable is lacking. The current state of digital radio and its future are discussed.
