ITN signs US public TV deal

Article Abstract:

ITN will be able to continue broadcasting in the US through a new deal signed via American Programme Service (APS), which supplies programs to PBS. ITN, which lost its contract to provide the US public service TV with international news to BBC, said the new deal will raise its bullettin distribution to 38% of American households with television. The new deal enables ITN to provide programs to a larger audience since PBS controls the largest public stations in the US. ITN will broadcast a 30-minute program titled World News for Public Television beginning November 2, 1998, through 43 US stations.

Digit waiving: Europe's grand digital alliance is on the brink of breaking up after Rupert Murdoch's patience was tested. But is there more to it than that?

Article Abstract:

BSkyB may withdraw from its digital joint venture with Bertelsmann of Germany and Canal+ of France, in Newco. This follows Rupert Murdoch's dissatisfaction about progress not being made at the expected rate. Contentious issues included Bertelsmann's plan to merge Ufa, its TV division, with CLT of Luxembourg, and the fact that BSkyB had not gained a stake in Premier of Germany, a pay TV station, owned by KirchGroup, Canal+ and Bertelsmann.
