Local specificity and regional unity under siege: territorial identity and the television news of Aquitaine

Article Abstract:

This article examines how local news broadcasts depict territorial identity in Aquitaine, France. The authors, analyzing national and local television policies, argue the two regional Aquitaine television channels air news programs that promote regionalism based on an opposition to centralized European policy.

Youth radio as 'social object': The social meaning of 'free radio' shows for young people in France

Article Abstract:

An analysis on radio, as a medium with its exploitative dual nature comprising conversation and device, text and frame and conversational exchange and social interaction is presented. There are four types of radio as a social object, namely, common sphere, quasi-institution, social event and device.

The new sense of place in 19th-century news

The historical development of the concept of place in news is analyzed. The way in which the sense of place was constructed in electronic foreign news in the mid-19th century is explained.
