Marques lured by Pepper's Ghost

Article Abstract:

Pepper's Ghost Productions (PGP), a television animation and effects company based in Kingston-on-Thames, UK, has appointed Alan Marques to become its head of digital production effective August 1, 1998. Marques, in effect, will be resigning from his post at Magic Camera Company as head of digital film. Marques will handle the management of PGP's graphics production team, in cooperation with executive creative director Andy Park. PGP managing director Paul Michael said the extensive experience of Marques will contibute to the success of the PGP.

Experiences of travelling to Los Angeles, CA, to attend a course of seminars taught by 'NYPD Blue' creator David Milch are described. Some aspects of Los Angeles culture are discussed, and details about Milch's approach to giving the seminars are presented. Advice for scriptwriters is detailed, including the need for firm commitment to making the project a success, the need to plan a new series immediately following the completion of the current series and the importance of being disciplined while writing.

The nine-part serial, rewritten by Peter Flannery from the stage play 'Our Friends in the North', centres around the lives of four young Newscastle friends who live through a series of national scandals during a 30-year period beginning in the 1960s.
