Media committee to reject News at Ten axing

Article Abstract:

ITV's proposal to remove News at Ten will be rejected by the Media Select Committee on grounds that ITV failed to support its claims. ITV claimed that the program need not be continued due to the existence of its 24-hour news channels, the launching of digital and online services. The committee's findings and suggestions will be the basis of Independent Television Commission's (ITC) decision, which is scheduled on November 9, 1998. Also, reportedly ITC received a record 1,800 responses believed to be mostly against the move during its public consultation regarding the planned removal of News at Ten.
