Minorities 'betrayed' by broadcast sector

Article Abstract:

Figures from a census of the UK broadcasting industry indicate that minorities are under-represented, compared with the entire workforce. Women comprise 36 per cent, ethnic minorities make up 6.4 per cent, and disabled people account for less than one per cent of broadcasting employees. A graph accompanying the article outlines the total number of employees and freelancers in each occupational group.

The Gavyn Davies committee made several recommendations to BBC Worldwide for increasing the revenue of BBC Resources Ltd. Among the suggestions included divesting the majority of BBC Resources Ltd., increasing private investment to forty-nine percent, as well as increase investment into television program production.
