Article Abstract:

Television program producers are looking to make up the shortfall in US and UK programmes by updating their approach to European productions that have been specifically designed for screening in several different countries. With a mixture of input from several cultures, previous such 'Euro-puddings' have often failed, but by sharing creative and financial resources co-productions can be more effective. The latest project to benefit from such an approach is the classic Rebecca, made by English, German and US production teams. A major success of global co-operation was the film Highlander.

On the wild side

Article Abstract:

Wildscreen 98 has been arranged to encourage production companies within Europe to work together to make and finance natural history programmes. Some production companies, such as the British Broadcasting Corporation, are making additional films whilst on location for their web sites, to help defray costs. High quality natural history programmes are expensive to make. The worldwide demand for natural history programmes is thriving but all companies are looking for fresh ideas and innovative programming which are less costly.
