Opinion-the new authority

Article Abstract:

Democracy has ceased to be an ideal for the majority of people and has become a reality for few. Efforts are being made by people and governments in every part of the world to establish and spread ideas of democracy. Media has transformed itself and influences every branch of government. Its direct access to individual by means of opinion polls and editorials is of great significance. Opinion has replaced law as the source of authority and acts as a judge of public opinion. The media has to be free and cover events comprehensively. The United Nations also provide a forum for the exposition of ideas.

Absolute talk on the radio: hosts establish intimacy with their audiences and with it authority

Article Abstract:

Radio talk shows have evolved into a medium covering a diverse array of subjects. Their popularity is attributed to the ability of their hosts to form intimacy with listeners which establishes their authority. The three most popular hosts are Rush Limbaugh who discusses conservative politics, Howard Stern who opposes censorship and Dr Laura Schlessinger who teaches moral values. The evolution of talk radio from the 1940s is also discussed.

Seeing through the media

Article Abstract:

Hungarians' increased access to American media such as MTV, HBO and CNN brought on by the collapse of Communism in 1989 has raised questions concerning their ability to interpret what they see. Hungarians do not possess the framework of knowledge necessary for them to interpret the images that they see. Thus, they simply view the images with no knowledge of where these came from nor what these mean.
