Plastic Fantastic

Article Abstract:

Convergence Productions was responsible for producing Channel 5's 13-part cosmetic surgery documentary series 'Plastic Fantastic.' This will be broadcast from Jul 8, 1997, and is set to have wide-reaching appeal, according to producer and director Douglas Chirnside. Any type of programme which has strong medical links is likely to be popular, although some viewers may find some of the operation sequences rather hard to watch in this case. Convergence Productions was careful to avoid sensationalism, and also avoided focusing on status symbol operations.

Time for a reality check

Article Abstract:

Mixed views are being expressed in the UK about television programmes using real-life footage from sources such as closed circuit television and police cameras. Programme producers welcome the increasing popularity of this genre, as such programmes are inexpensive to produce. However, some observers feel that real-life footage represents an invasion of privacy and a decline in editorial standards. Concerns are being expressed about the very unclear distinction between the appropriate and inappropriate use of real-life footage.
