Quantel seeks marketing guru

Article Abstract:

Quantel, a subsidiary of Carlton, has announced its decision not to find a direct successor for former managing director Jeff Meadows but instead will look for a marketing specialist to fill the newly re-established group marketing director assignment. The company plans to share some of the functions of Meadows, who resigned unexpectedly in August 1998, between Richard Taylor, the firm's chairman and the group marketing director designate. A spokesperson announced that the new official, who will have board level function for global marketing, will most likely come from the outside of the business.

Growing up fast

Article Abstract:

Aardman Animations' "Rex the Runt" is one of two series being showcase in the Vital International Animation Festival in Cardiff, United Kingdom. The 13 x 10-minute series, which shows the strange adventures of plasticine dogs, is Aardman's first venture in to the primetime series. "Bob and Margaret" is the other series, a 13 x 30-minute show that promises to capture the viewers' desire for adult animation. Both shows, which are touted to signal a significant period in the domestic animation sector, will tell whether the British-made series have advanced.

Paulie boosts UK's character animation

Article Abstract:

The Computer Film Company (CFC) said that it had finished more than 140 shots on Dreamwork's Pictures' feature 'Paulie: a Parrot's Tale.' The feature, which is CFC's first major character animation project, involved more than five-and-a-half minutes of facial expressions and lipsynching. The company used a mix of Matador, Houdini and Alias Wavefront before the shots were composited via three Cineon systems. CFC also made several computer-animated birds in order that the director could select almost any flight path for the character to fly.
