Reality bites

Article Abstract:

British television programme distributors have faced some difficulty in selling documentary and documentary soap programmes overseas. Some have been more popular due to the subject matter, particularly if they portray a traditional view of the British. Other documentary makers have been successful in selling their products abroad because they choose controversial subjects which will be publicized by the media. The use of a narrator allows the programmes to be revoiced for the overseas market. Many UK documentaries are broadcast on minority stations if they are sold abroad.
