Hark the herald angels whinge

Article Abstract:

It is common for modern authors to dislike Christmas. They often write in tones of cynicism or despair about their experiences of Christmas, and present Christmas as a form of torture to be suffered, rather than as a happy experience. In fact, these authors are expressing feelings that are common to many of their readers, who do not have the confidence or the ability to express them. There were also some Victorian writers who greatly disliked Christmas.
