Scheduling wars

Article Abstract:

Audience figures and demographic research are important tools for schedulers working in television broadcasting but they also need to be willing to take risks. Each station has its own style of programming which sometimes has to be fitted around specific programs. Often schedulers have to contend with audiences who are angry their favourite programs have been discontinued. Before the advent of satellite and the other terrestrial stations the British Broadcasting Corporation and Independent Television competed against each other and therefore broadcast similar types of shows at the same time.

Article Abstract:

The television broadcasting industry in India is expected to grow significantly. Only 27% of urban homes, and 15% of rural homes, currently have a television set. However, expansion is currently restricted by dated technology and the government monopoly on live satellite and terrestrial broadcasting. Television advertising expenditure is forecast to rise by 40% to 225 million pounds sterling in the current financial year. An overview of the industry and forecasts for the future are included.

Article Abstract:

Television programme-makers have traditionally been rather reluctant to address the issue of authorship. However, in today's business environment they must come to accept that authorship, and ownership, are complex issues. In many cases, a programme will not only be shown once, but will be adapted, possibly many times, to suit different audiences. It is inevitable that the concept of authorship becomes unclear when a programme is adapted many times.
