Television and taste hierarchy: The case of Dutch television comedy

Article Abstract:

The television taste cultures and hierarchies and the mechanisms underlying and perpetuating them are explored by conducting a combination of survey and interview data and focusing on specific form of popular television comedy in Netherlands. The study shows that existence of taste hierarchy within television is unexpected for three reasons as television is very accessible, fragmented and almost exclusively devoted to popular culture of comedy.

The people's detective: True crime in Dutch folklore and popular television

Article Abstract:

Media studies, cultural history and ethnology overlap are explored to find an answer on what position does present-day television entertainment occupy in the cultural history of popular entertainment in the Netherlands. The crime represented in terms of subject selection, narrative structure, victim and criminal typology, investigation process and underlying mortality are highlighted.

The Digital Games Research Association (DiGRA) held their conference on 4 to 6 November 2003 in Utrecht, which was attended by nearly 500 participants. Lectures were conducted by Katie Salen, Eric Zimmerman, Janet Murray and Jesper Juul.
