The light stuff

Article Abstract:

Working as a researcher is a good way to enter the world of light entertainment television programme producing, according to Emma Cornish, who works in BBC Production's entertainment group. She began as a researcher, and later became an assistant producer. She has recently had the opportunity to produce two series of her own. Pearson Television Productions (UK) Chief Executive Alan Boyd entered the television industry as a technical operator, but later moved into light entertainment producing, where he is still active.

TV soap's Mr Fix-it

Article Abstract:

The BBC is to give more attention to popular, contemporary drama and produce fewer costume dramas, according to head of drama series Mal Young. He rejects accusations that his commissions and recommissions will lead to a rise in the number of series about the police and about medical personnel. He believes that many BBC series need to be made less clean and clinical. He welcomes the fact that he has been able to act independently and to use his instincts.
