Doing write by TV

Article Abstract:

UK television drama programmes were traditionally developed through writer-led activities which enabled programme makers to build a drama around the written word. The need to generate higher ratings has led to writers becoming secondary in importance to production techniques and directing, which can often misinterpret the essential meaning of a writers idea. Television writers are seeking to revive the influence on programme making they once had by improving programme content rather than delivery.
