Article Abstract:

The UK government is looking to increase private sector involvement in the use of European Union structural funds in order to ensure that these funds are used more effectively. It has now issued guidelines which detail the circumstances in which private sector concerns which contribute financially to an infrastructure scheme may gain direct access to the European Regional Development Fund. These guidelines set down the principles which are used when deciding whether to allow European Regional Development Fund money to be used in infrastructure schemes which are fully or partially financed by the private sector.

The race for first lady

Article Abstract:

Journalists want the first lady to be a gracious, uncontroversial woman who supports her husband. However, they also want her to be different and to be effective in her own right. It is now time for the media to try to reconcile its contrasting visions of the first lady. This will require an analysis of changes in relations between men and women and husbands and wives. Journalists must ask questions, rather than making assumptions, and must review their expectations.
