The real war: the news media's complicity in government censorship dismays a reporter who covered the Persian Gulf War

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the press coverage of the 1991 Persian Gulf War are examined, focusing on military action that was only reported months after the war and the failure of the major news network, newspapers, and wire services to challenge the legality of press restrictions. Topics include the manner in which US military earth-moving machines buried alive thousands of Iraqi soldiers in desert trenches, military lies to families of six soldiers who died from friendly fire, and changes in editorial policy in an era when newspapers are owned by corporations with other corporate interests.
