The transformation of Time magazine: from opinion leader to supporting player

Article Abstract:

Time magazine was traditionally the major national news agenda provider for much of the nation's middle class in 1968. The oldest and largest circulating magazine is a far cry from what it was in 1968 as it has been forced to redefine its mission and content. Although it remains the most popular news magazine, Time has lost its leading role in opinion leadership, its character, and has, at best, been relegated to the status of a supporting player with little influence.

Framing feminism - a feminist primer for the mass media

Article Abstract:

The stereotyped conception of feminists, called framing, results from the media's poor understanding of feminist theory. Feminists have different points of view, are not necessarily white, are not deviants as portrayed by the media, and are not wrong in expressing a personal perspective in the things they write. Men and women in the media should be trained to avoid forming preconceived ideas of feminism and feminists if the voices of women are to have meaning.
