Channel 4 looks at work of coroners

Article Abstract:

Channel 4 is geared to broadcast The Coroners, a new 5 x 50-minute documentary series in 1999. The series, created by Twenty Twenty Television, looks into the work of a group of Birmingham coroners' officers investigating unexplained deaths. The Coroners partly delves into the judicial system, a topic not always probed by filmmakers, and includes details such as visiting scenes of death and interviewing witnesses. C4 stressed that the documentary was created sensitively and was only made with the consent of the next of kin.

Article Abstract:

Channel 4 has increased its budget for 1999-2000 to 360 million pounds sterling, higher by 10% or 40 million pounds sterling if compared to its budget in 1998. Karen Brown, Channel 4's program director, stated that much of the increase in the budget will be spent in developing new drama and entertainment programs and in improving the network's night-time programming. Gub Neal, head of drama and animation, declared Channel 4 is planning to screen 42 new pieces of drama, which include five new series.
