Warning for ITV's news move

Article Abstract:

ITV's plan to move News at Ten at a different time slot is met with warnings from foreign broadcasters that the network risks losing its audience base. Tony Burman, CBC Newsworld head, cited as an example CBC's own experience when it transferred its news program from the 22.00 time slot to 21.00 slot in 1993. Its news program dropped from the top position to second place in the ratings, even though it returned the program to its original time slot. He said that the reasons for transferring the news program must be made clear to its core audience or risks losing their support. Other foreign broadcaster concurred with his opinion. However, the network believes that its planned move is based on changing conditions.
