Watch your back

Article Abstract:

An insurance pool needs to be created to take care of the families of the free-lance journalists and reporters who go on risky assignments. Free lancers take risks that ordinary journalists refrain from taking. Money and the desire of repute through a good story motivates stringers to take on risky assignments in war zones and areas of passionate conflict. News organizations should initiate necessary measures to protect journalists, both staff and freelancers, on risky assignments. The public conviction of a culprit for murdering a journalist will help deter any further such attacks.

The clash of arms in exotic locales

Article Abstract:

A war correspondent recalls how his love for aggressive international reporting inspired him to cover conflicts in such exotic locales as Vietnam, Central America, Haiti, the Persian Gulf, and Chechnya. Despite the political pressures and physical risks involved, war correspondents are being viewed as communicators conveying the views of different warring parties. Events during the Gulf War have propelled traditional reportage to new heights of diplomacy. The correspondent describes his experiences of reporting from Vietnam, Guatemala, and from the Iraqi side during the Gulf War.
