Women comics to chase out C4 yanks

Article Abstract:

Channel Four has commissioned a new program that will be produced in UK as part of its strategy to reduce dependence on American shows. The new 7 x 30-minute program, which carries a working title, Spot the Pony, will be aired every Friday at 9:30 pm, starting February 1999. Spot the Pony's cast will be composed of female comedians and will feature burping dentists, women falling over, and removable penises. C4 has committed to develop more UK-made programs to match US shows after receiving criticisms from Independent Television Commission (ITC).

ITV seen 'as secondhand car dealer' by viewers

Article Abstract:

ITV is considered by its viewers as less conservative and more informal than BBC 1, while BBC 2 is considered as more intellectual according to a study conducted by the ITC. The study, which aims at gathering information regarding people's perception of various television channels, found that people perceived Channel 4 as more complex than other channels with its noisier, risk alternative and younger-target programming. Channel 5, however, secured contradicting data with some viewers liking some of it shows while a number classify them as absurd.
