Yorkshire's rollercoaster ride

Article Abstract:

Yorkshire TV has seen and experienced the ups and downs of television broadcasting in its 30 years in the business. Although YTV is the smallest among the Big Five ITV networks in terms of revenue, the station has aimed to rise above its level from the start. YTV is hailed for producing large number of programming every year, but it is also known for quality and breadth of its programming slate. Aside from producing drama and entertainment shows, YTV is behind prize-winning documentaries such as "Johnny Go Home" and "Too Long A Winter."

Uncle Lew - ITV's man of the people

Article Abstract:

Lew Grade played a significant role in the creation of ITV. He and his brother Leslie, with whom he had been running a show business talent agency, each invested 15,000 pounds sterling. Grade's new distribution company, ITC, took a significant risk in producing 39 weeks of 'Robin Hood' at 10,000 pounds sterling an episode, but this proved to be a worthwhile step. Grade gained a strong reputation for making deals, and was also very talented at spotting potentially successful programme ideas.
