A concept analysis of alcoholic denial and cultural accounts

Article Abstract:

Nurses can work more effectively with alcoholics in denial if they work within the cultural context of alcoholics' accounts of the reasons for their problems. For example, Hispanic men view an admission of uncontrolled drinking as a lack of machismo, while Native Americans regard alcoholism as an affliction by a witch. More productive than confrontation would be exploring how the Hispanic man can feel more in control or how the Native American can undo the evil.

A successive filtering technique for identifying long-term trends

Article Abstract:

A study, analyzing a successive filtering technique for identifying long-term trends, was conducted. The shape of long-term trends is affected by cycles, which hamper efforts to predict its inherent change. The filtering technique removes cyclical effects from long-term trends in ascending order according to length through the transformation of the original time series. Pascal-based software has been developed to accomplish the filtering technique.
