Do economics departments with lower tenure probabilities pay higher faculty salaries?

Article Abstract:

The relationship between faculty salary and tenure probabilities in economics departments was investigated. Data on the starting salaries paid to assistant economics professors from 1974 to 1980 and estimates of tenure probabilities were presented. A simple conceptual model of the relationship between faculty salary and tenure probabilities was described. Empirical results showed that a tradeoff exists between the average salaries of tenured economics professors and tenure probabilities offered to new assistant professors.

Environmental regulation and innovation: a panel data study

Article Abstract:

The link between regulatory stringency and innovative activity by the regulated industry relies on the what method of innovative activity is used. Lagged environmental compliance expenditures have an important positive impact on research and development expenditures when unobserved industry-specific effects are controlled. However, little evidence exists in analyzing that industries' inventive output is related with compliance costs.

Universities as a source of commercial technology: a detailed analysis of university patenting, 1965-1988

Article Abstract:

The dramatic rise in the number of university patenting from 1965 to 1988 has resulted in a corresponding decline in its value and generality. The decline in the value of university patenting was greatly being attributed to the significant growth recorded in granting low-quality patents to universities. A decline in in the diversity of university patents was also noted during the covered period.
