Estimating an emissions supply function from accelerated vehicle retirement programs

Article Abstract:

The potential effect of accelerated vehicle retirement programs on reduced toxic emissions and air-quality improvement was analyzed using data from the Delaware Accelerated Vehicle Retirement Program conducted in 1992-1993. The program offered selected groups of pre-1980 vehicles owners $500 for their vehicles, and questioned about vehicle use, value and features. Results suggest that small scale focused scrappage programs are cost-effective and useful as part of a general policy to reduce emissions.

The rise of the rate of profit during World War II

Article Abstract:

The growth in the US profit rate during World War II is studied. A non-neutral discontinuity is found in the technical change process, incorporating the autonomous replacement in the capital stock of equipment for structures. A shift of 15.8% is found in the gap from 1946-1989 and 1900-1929, vs an average of 29% for the entire period. The accelerating rate of autonomous technological progress during 1930-1945 is used to account for the transformation, based on a production function study.

On the effect of devaluation during stabilization programs in LDCs

Article Abstract:

The influence of real devaluation on production levels during stabilization plan implementation in less developed countries was studied. Findings revealed that the marked drop in output is primarily caused by a significant decrease in investment and not by an increase in aggregate savings.
