GERMANY: TRENDS FOR STEEL SHEETS

Article Abstract:

German steelmaker Salzgitter AG has ordered a facility for the coating of steel strips from Sundwig GmbH. The DM 90mn facility with a capacity of 180,000 tons per year will be installed in the Salzgitter plant by the beginning of 2000. With the investment, Salzgitter is reacting to two trends: The automotive industry increasingly uses galvanised and additionally organically coated sheet steel. In the domestic appliances sector, organically coated sheet steel will replace steel coated at the site of the appliance producer. Environmental factors play a role for both trends.
