A retired Marine officer expresses concern over the trends in the Corps' Combined Arms Exercise. From all indications, the exercise is less demanding that it was 10 years earlier, despite the many weapons and communications advances.

Training for combat: the role of an NCO

The importance of noncommissioned officers in the Marine Corps is discussed. The characteristics needed by a Marine NCO include the ability to be a leader, and the ability to communicate their knowledge to junior Marines.
