Effective communicative and listening skills revisited

Article Abstract:

Training programs for Marine Corps officers ought to include sessions for effective communications. Many Marine leadrs have poorly developed communications and listening skills that result in deadlines not being met, less than optimal work results, extended work hours, a perception of inept leadership by workers and other undesirable situations. Officers, especially junior officers, should also conduct periodic reviews to heighten their awareness of the necessity of such skills for operational effectiveness.

A career in reflection: As seen through the lens of Belleau Wood

Article Abstract:

A Marine recounts the successful military exploits of the Marines of the 2d Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment (2/5) who fought and repelled the German Army's advance on Paris, France in 1918, saving the town and people of Belleau in the process. A memorial service in Belleau Wood in 2003 illustrated the manner in which those Marines who died long ago are still loved and thanked for their deeds.
