ASRAAM scores in Australia

Article Abstract:

Matra BAe Dynamics has been selected by Australia to provide its ASRAAM to meet a requirement of the RAAF for a new short-range air-to-air missile. The company and the government are currently in detailed contractual discussions, leading to contract signing in mid 1998 and first delivery in around 2000. RAAF intends to integrate the ASRAAM with the F/A-18 aircraft, which makes it the first US fighter to be operationally equipped with a European air-to-air missile. The deal is crucial for Matra BAe since this the first export breakthrough for ASRAAM and the RAAF requirement is the first open competition in which air-to-air missiles competed.
