Amphibious forces: the '9-1-1' number has never been busier! So now what?

Article Abstract:

Amphibious forces combining Navy and Marine Corps units have been the most demonstrably effective assault units since the Vietnam War. Current forces within striking distance of Iraq include three Marine expeditionary unit (special operations capable) groups, two Marine expeditionary brigade-sized units, and one Marine force command element.

The future family of U. S. naval ships

Article Abstract:

The most important kind of naval vessel essential to the U.S. Navy's future combat capability will be the focused-mission littoral combat ship. This new warship will serve the purposes of diplomacy, combat support, crisis response, and deterrence.

Navy MH-53s can support the Marines

Article Abstract:

Combined forces of the US Navy and Marines have a potential resupply capability that has not been fully utilized. Forward-deployed, sea- or shore-based MH-53E Sea Dragon vehicles could provide the most currently capable heavy-lift combat support.
