The Philippine government and the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) decided to restart Malaysian-facilitated peace talks on 17 July 2004. In response to an official renunciation of terrorism by MILF chairman Salamat Hashim, Manila agreed to lift murder charges that are filed against the rebel leadership.
