BAE Systems and the RAF

Article Abstract:

BAE Systems is developing an operational resource management system within the RAF Command and Control Information System and Station and Deployed Forces Operational Management Project Database and Application air command and control planning and tasking aid of the UK. The initial application phase is scheduled for delivery to the customer in Sep 2000. It is expected to improve the capability of the air force to create, manage and support flying programs using data on aircraft, personnel and assoicated support equipment.

Westland gears up

Article Abstract:

GKN Westland has inaugurated its transmission test facility in Yeovil, UK. The facility features a GPB9 million Flexible Transmission Test Rig that allows the testing of various gearboxes and transmissions from helicopters on a single rig. The 120-ton rig creates simulations of aircraft operating conditions. The rig is installed on a 700-ton seismic slab which is supported on 25 giant springs in order to isolate vibration.

Marshall's C-130 grows up

Article Abstract:

Marshall Aerospace has concluded the first flight trials of its C-130 upgrade at its Cambridge facility in the UK. The upgrade includes the Sextant Topdeck avionics suite with five large-format multi-function displays, a Totem 3000 INS with embedded GPS, ADV and a digital autopilot enhanced by a new Flight Management System, a new radio and navigation aids and a remote radio tuning unit.
