Battle Stations and Battle Stations 21: Building the crews for the USN's 'fleet of the future'

Article Abstract:

Battle Stations is a hard series of drills and exercises that test the US Navy's newest recruits and it is also used to describe the final major event of the eight-week Recruit Training Command boot camp at the US Naval Service Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois. The newest recruits would become a US Navy's Sailor and would remain a Sailor for the rest of his or her life after completing Battle Stations.

Article Abstract:

'Battle Stations' is the culmination of the US Navy's Recruit Training Command better known as 'boot camp' where the navy's newest recruits undergo grueling tests and exercises. April 2007 will see a new facility called 'Battle Stations 21 Trainer Complex' where recruits will additionally benefit from interactive learning and where their critical thinking skills will be evaluated.

Article Abstract:

The relationship between the Navy and the Coast Guard, the changes for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) mission resulting from the terrorist attacks on 9/11 and the under-water-in-depth defense plans are discussed. The Deepwater recapitalization programme of the USCG has taken major initiatives to improve capabilities of the maritime services to counter terrorism and secure harbors.
