Bofors, United Defense sign naval gun agreement

Article Abstract:

Bofors Weapon System and United Defense have struck a collaborative agreement allowing the Armament Systems Division of United Defense to market and manufacture Bofor's 40mm and 57mm naval guns. The agreement states that United Defense can offer the Bofors' 40mm Mk 3 and 57mm Nk 3 naval guns, including related 3P ammunition, for US, Foreign Military Sales and other direct international commercial sales applications. United Defense will also become the prime contractor, subcontracting the ordnance and elevating mass to Bofors, while retaining the 3P family of ammunition responsibility to Bofors.

Iranian chief talks up fleet additions

Article Abstract:

Iran's chief of the Navy has declared that his service has accepted two new coastal submarines in mid-November 2006 and is setting up for his country's first indigenously built major surface combatant IS Mowj, to become operational within six months. He stated that the vessel was entirely indigenous apart from the lower-hull section, which he verified was built in France.

Vice Adm Ganiyu Adekeye, Chief of the Naval Staff of Nigeria addresses the challenges that the Nigerian Navy is facing in the Niger Delta and the Gulf of Guinea because they are poorly equipped. He emphasizes the importance of close working ties with International allies, particularly the US, and retaining its sovereign responsibility for its own territorial waters.
