Bollinger to modify three cyclone PCs

Article Abstract:

Bollinger Shipyards will modify three Cyclone-class coastal patrol ships (PCs) at its indoor fabrication facility in Lockport, LA, under a $5.1- million contract. The company, which is also building the USS Shamal, USSS Zephyr and the USS Hurricane, will add a nine-foot hull extension called the Combat Craft Retrieval System to the ships to accommodate an angle ramp and two doors for underway launch and recovery of special warfare infalatble boats.

EB contracted to modify SSN 23 for special ops

Article Abstract:

General Dynamics Corp subsidiary Electric Boat Corp has won an $887- million contract from the Navy to modify the service's third Seawolf-class nuclear-powered attack submarine, the 'Jimmy Carter.' for special operations. The SSN 23 Jimmy Carter is still being constructed. Electric Boat is to modify the ship to enable it to accommodate advanced technology for naval special warfare, tactical surveillance operations and mine- warfare missions.

NASSCO to build 8th Watson; will modify Soderman for USMC

Article Abstract:

The National Steel and Shipbuilding Co (NASSCO) has received a $230 million contract from the US Navy to construct an eighth Watson-class large, medium-speed, roll-on/roll-off (LMSR) sealift ship. The ship will complete the Military Sealift Command's 20-ship LMSR program when it is delivered in mid-2002. NASSCO, meanwhile, has been awarded a $2 million contract to start modifying the USNS Soderman, a combat prepositioning ship.
