The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has agreed to a research development programme with Canberra-based Pacific Noise & Vibrations (PNV), which will develop sniper-detection systems into land-based equipment. PNV's Acoustic Area Protection System (AAPS) system is capable of tracking the rocket-propelled grenade (RPG ) in flight until detonation and it is designed to recognize acoustic signatures of mortar and artillery rounds.

The Defense material Organization in Australia is having some problems that have delayed the Royal Australian Navy from receiving its final modernized Adelaide-class frigate (FFG) up to June 2009.
